Boc Scadet
Boc Scadet is the work of Lawrence Grover, who is currently studying a music technology and production degree at Canterbury, England. Working with found sound recordings made with a portable minidisc recorder and utilizing various pieces of software, he encompasses a wide sonic palette where the synthetic is placed and integrated comfortably alongside the nonsynthetic.

The compositions manifest as textured and layered melody based pieces that are often underpinned by found sound structures. Constantly shifting aesthetically and evolving in new directions, Boc Scadet is currently working on more spacious, minimalist material.

Since the inception of Boc Scadet in 2002 Lawrence Grover has released two EPs and two albums on his own cdr label clickclickdrone and a mini album on Unlabel. He has also made several appearances on compilations released by Toytronic, October Man, Boltfish, Sutemos, Bitlab, and Rednetic.

Igloo

Boc Scadet, Lawrence Grover (label head), captured his moniker by fusing the letters of Autechre's Basscadet EP box-set edition (Warp, 1994); he releases high-tech electronic abstractions that sparkle and shine on Temporary Oceans. On this full-length CDr, Boc Scadet unveils 11 integral pieces of pleasantly crafted rhythms much in the vein of Ochre and Zainetica. The crisp, clean and defined sounds of Temporary Oceans reveal the intricacies of thoughtful musical engineering. Hinting at Artificial Intelligence era feelings, Temporary Oceans is chock full of melodic manifestations that trickle down a smooth corridor of subtle tweaks, screeches and sublime frequencies.

Igloo

On Yleptic, the 6-track CDr-EP by Boc Scadet, a flash of ambient fluctuations fall through the crackling decay of the cover arts depiction. Like Expanding and Cactus Island recordings, sincerity and fragrant textures are the elements that make this EP such a refreshing listen. Toytronic records recently used "Sel Alterat" on their latest Everything Is Green compilation bearing a striking resemblance to Autechre's "Eggshell" (Incunabula, Warp 1993) with low-rumbling bass lines, shivering high-hats and exquisite melody arrangements that can easily be considered a tear-jerker if absorbed properly; quite beautiful, to say the least, and well worth driving to along the coasts.

Resurface

In 2004 the very first ClickClickDrone release emerged and it was signed Boc Scadet, entitled “Yleptic” and it is simply delightful. It doesn’t have much in common with the latest offering by the same artist, the full-length album “Vessel in June” (May 2005) apart from the obvious fact that it is excellent as well. Boc Scadet clearly has the ability to encompass more than one musical style or orientation. The apt beats programming, bassfilled and lush forward moving tracks on his first CCD release are as mature and engaging as his droned out dystrophic ones on “Vessel in June”. The EP stands 6 tracks tall and is a great collection of contemporary electronic non-vocal music. You probably would have problems getting hold of one at this point, but I strongly suggest you try!

Ad Noiseam

While "Temporary Oceans" is a mostly calm album, melodic and relaxing, there are definitely quite a lot of small audio tricks, almost headnod-inducing beats and changes on this album for me to check this in the IDM genre. Probably influenced by the aforementionned Autechre, Bola and Aphex Twin's ambient works, this is an album which, while not reinventing the wheel, is very pleasant to listen to.
